Our Story
H&M Top-Notch Landscaping was built from more than a love of landscaping. It was built from experience, resilience, and the belief that creating something living and beautiful can be part of rebuilding. Our company was founded in McMinnville, Oregon, by Houston Rasmussen and Maggie Osmon. Houston is an Army combat veteran, and his experiences in the military and after returning home helped shape the way he approaches both work and life. After experiencing the realities of combat, there was something meaningful about coming home and working with his hands to create, restore, and care for living spaces.
Landscaping offered something that was difficult to find elsewhere: the opportunity to take something that was neglected, damaged, overgrown, or broken and make it better.
A landscape doesn't change overnight. You clear what needs to go. You repair what can be saved. You rebuild what has failed. You give plants the right conditions to grow. Then you come back, maintain it, and watch the results develop over time.
That process became more than a profession. It became part of healing.
H&M was built around that same philosophy. We don't believe in simply showing up, doing the minimum, and leaving. We believe in taking ownership of the property, identifying problems before they become bigger ones, communicating with our clients, and leaving things better than we found them.
Houston brought approximately 14 years of professional landscaping experience to the company, including commercial landscape maintenance, irrigation installation and emergency repair, irrigation troubleshooting, supervision, commercial herbicide applications, new construction installs land hazardous vegetation management. He also holds extensive knowledge and training in aquascapes, water management, pond biology and fish care. Maggie and Houston founded H&M Top-Notch Landscaping with the goal of building something of their own—a company grounded in hard work, accountability, professionalism, and service to the community. Maggie is the backbone of client outreach, communications, scheduling, licenses and compliance. If you ever get her on the phone you will be more then pleased. More often then not we are told dont get rid of maggie she is your biggest asset. I couldnt be more grateful for help holding it all together. We have 4 children ages 6 months- 11 years. Houston grew up in mcminnville and maggie is a hillsboro native.
Today, H&M serves residential and commercial properties throughout McMinnville, Yamhill County, and surrounding communities.
Our work has grown beyond traditional lawn care.
We take on landscape maintenance, technical irrigation, restoration, vegetation management, property cleanup, fire-hazard reduction, pond restoration, and other projects where a property needs more than someone simply passing through with a mower.
More Than Landscaping
For us, landscaping represents something bigger.
You can rebuild.
You can restore.
You can take something that has been neglected and bring it back.
You can create something worth protecting.
That's the principle behind H&M Top-Notch Landscaping.
We aren't trying to be the biggest landscaping company around.
We're building a company we're proud to put our name on—one property, one client, and one project at a time.
That technical background became an important part of H&M's identity.
Rather than treating irrigation, landscape maintenance, property cleanup, and restoration as separate pieces, H&M approaches a property as an entire system. The company focuses on preventative maintenance, technical irrigation management, property restoration, vegetation management, fire-hazard reduction, and detailed landscape care.
Built from experience
H&M's development was not simply about starting another landscaping company. Houston and Maggie wanted to create a company that could eventually provide families and businesses with a dependable, professional contractor they could trust with their properties.
The company's veteran ownership also influences its operating philosophy. Structure, accountability, preparation, communication, and taking responsibility for the work are central to how H&M operates.
That philosophy has particularly shaped H&M's commercial work.
The company has taken on properties where clients were looking for a higher level of communication, consistency, and attention from their landscape contractor. H&M has subsequently gained commercial and residential clients who were dissatisfied with previous contractors and wanted a company that would actually take ownership of the property rather than simply complete the minimum scope.
From maintenance to restoration
While routine landscape maintenance remains an important part of the business, H&M has deliberately positioned itself beyond traditional lawn care. Its work can include:
Landscape maintenance and management
Technical irrigation installation, repair and troubleshooting
Emergency irrigation repairs
Landscape and property restoration
Brush and vegetation management
Fire-hazard reduction
Ivy, blackberry, Scotch broom and invasive vegetation removal
Pond restoration and algae-management projects
Native, ornamental and themed landscapes
Commercial property maintenance
Large-property cleanup and restoration
Preventative property maintenance
The company particularly values difficult or neglected properties where careful assessment, planning, and physical work are required to bring the landscape back under control.
The H&M philosophy
H&M Top-Notch Landscaping is ultimately built around doing the work correctly rather than simply doing enough to get through the day.
The company aims to provide clients with:
Professional communication.
Detailed workmanship.
Technical competence.
Accountability.
Reliable scheduling.
Preventative thinking.
Respect for the property.
The goal isn't to become the biggest landscaping company in Oregon.
It's to become the contractor clients call when their property matters and they need someone who will actually take responsibility for it.
Where H&M is today
From its beginning in 2025, H&M has developed into a growing local landscaping contractor serving McMinnville and the surrounding Yamhill County region, with work extending into neighboring communities and counties.
The company continues to build its recurring maintenance portfolio while expanding its higher-value work in irrigation, restoration, vegetation management, and commercial property services. We employee a small number of help and run 2-3 crews year round from our mcminnville location.
At its core, H&M remains a local, veteran-owned small business built by people who actually work in the field—with the long-term goal of creating a company known not simply for cutting grass, but for solving landscape problems and taking care of properties at a higher standard.
